Comparison is the Thief of Joy

She is skinnier than I am.
She has a boyfriend and I don't.
This person has a job and I don't have one yet (for the seniors in college).
That person is happy and I don't feel any joy.
She is prettier than I am.
This person earns more or less than I do.
She has a rock on her finger and I don't.
She is more popular than I am.

Do these thoughts sound familiar? If you are not abiding in Christ, comparing thoughts can trap you into a despair, discouragement and discontentment.  King's daughter, God's plan for your life is SPECIFIC and INDIVIDUAL! The way He made you is UNIQUE - unlike anyone else! Comparison is a meaningless waste of time.

Psalm 139:6 says, "all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." Do you think when God ordained all your days, He was comparing your life and calling to anyone else's? Absolutely not.

Psalm 45:11 says, "So the King will greatly desire your beauty." Do you think when God carefully created you and called you beautiful, He was comparing your looks to anyone else? Absolutely not.

King's daughter, the Lord's customized plan for you is perfect and unlike any other person's. He knows what you need and when you need it. He made you wonderfully and perfectly. Comparison robs, steals, and destroys your contentment, trust, and rest in God's plan for you and perfect creation of you.

The Scripture warns us of comparing ourselves to others:

"Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load." Galatians 6:4-5

"For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise." 2 Corinthians 10:12

King's daughter, rejoice today in God's unique destiny for you life and the wonderful way He made you!
