Success God's Way

What do you think of when you hear the word success? A raise, big salary or that big promotion? Owning your own company? Fame or status? Here is the "world's" definition of success...

However, God's definition of success is completely different than the world's. The only time the word is used in Scripture is in Joshua 1:6-8

"Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."

In Hebrew, the word used for success in this verse is sakal - which means...

Wow! What a difference!

To the world, success is wealth, performance and achievement. But to God, success is wisdom, prudence, and insight found by observing the law and meditating on the Word day and night. As you grow in wisdom from the Lord and hear His voice, the Lord says that He will show you how to prosper:

"Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit,
Who leads you by the way you should go." Isaiah 48:17

The next time you are praying about work, ask the Lord to give you HIS definition of success. Meditate on the Word and seek the Lord for wisdom, insight, and comprehension. He will tell you what deals to make, how to go about your professional day, who to call, where to apply, and what to do! Listen for His voice to guide every step and decision of your day. He will fulfill His promise to "teach you to profit" and "lead you in the way you should go" to success.

Read 1 Kings 3 and learn from Solomon.
He asked for wisdom and the Lord prospered him greatly.
