God's First Command: Love

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts." Deuteronomy 6:4-6

This is the FIRST command the Lord ever gave to His people Israel. Isn't that incredible? The Lord did not start listing off rules, regulations, or "to-do's." No, His first command was love Me with all your heart, soul, and strength. You might be asking, "how is this kind of love possible?"
"We love because He first loved us." 1 John 4:19

King's daughter, if you are feeling lost, stuck in sin, or trapped in "religion" (working and doing for God), go back to the first thing the Lord ever asked His people to do: love Him. Ask God to consume all your heart, all your soul and all your strength with a love for Him and His word. All means all! Repent of any division in your heart - anything of the world you have loved more than the Lord (reputation, work, friends, boyfriend, body, or habits) by repeating David's prayer, "Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name." Psalm 86:11 - and go forward living as a King's daughter who loves The King with all her heart, soul, and strength!

God promises in return, He will lavish you with His perfect, life-changing love. Here's what David's response after His prayer for an undivided heart, "Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You." Psalm 63:3

Fun idea: In your quiet time, look up all the verses about loving the Lord. See what He reveals to you!
