Lies about Drunkennes

Before I begin, if you are under-age and it is not lawful for you to drink,
DO NOT DRINK.
"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves." Romans 13:1-3

Top 10 Lies about Drunkenness
"Do not get drunk on wine,
which leads to debauchery.
Instead, be filled with the Spirit." Eph. 5:18

Lie #1 A sober night is BORING.
"Those who seek the Lord lack no good thing." Psalm 34:10
"The joy of the LORD is your strength." Neh. 8:10

God is not taking away your enjoyment by telling you to remain sober. He promises when you seek Him, you will lack no good thing, including fun! He will fill you with joy and give you plans that glorify Him.

Lie #2 It's not hurting anyone.
"Wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise." Prov. 20:1 Whether you go too far with a guy, leave your cell phone in a cab, or cause drama with friends by saying careless words or sharing secrets, drunken actions can hurt you. Not to mention painful hangovers...

"It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother or sister to fall." Romans 14:21
Your witness for Christ is hurt when others see you drunk. Someone struggling with alcohol might see your drunkenness and have a false ease with drinking more.

Lie #3 It's too hard to stop drinking when I'm out with all my friends.
"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7
This verse does not say maybe or might; it says the devil WILL flee. Resist Satan by the power of Jesus Christ in you. He resisted every temptation and He lives inside of you!

Lie#4 I'm just so stressed - alcohol will help me forget and have a good time.
"Cast your cares on the LORD and He will sustain you." Psalm 55:22
When you wake up the next morning, the same problems will exist. Only the Lord offers true and lasting comfort. Trust Him with your problems and give Him your stress.

Lie#5 My "church self" and my "party self" are two different things.
"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other." Matthew 6:24
You cannot serve two masters. You cannot serve the Lord AND serve yourself.

"But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." 1 Peter 3:15
No matter where you are - whether on a mission trip or in a bar - the Lord wants you to be on mission for Him, ready to give encouragement, share the gospel, or defend your faith.

Lie #6 I'm in a new crowd / think that boy is super cute. I need to loosen up a little...
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:10
When God made you, He did not think "I'll make her to be just OK - but her true colors will really shine when she's drunk." NO WAY! He made everything about you perfectly. Be confident in Christ and the way He made your your personality, humor, and looks!

Lie #7 Other people will think I'm a "goody-two shoes" if I'm not partying with them.
"For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ." Gal. 1:10
To be honest, they might. But why fear opinion of man? The Lord's opinion is the only thing that matters, He will give you confidence and uphold you.

Lie #8 It's OK - I only get drunk every once and a while.
"Hate what is evil; cling to what is good." Romans 12:9
As you fall in love with the Lord and abide in Him, you will hate your sin. You will die daily to your flesh and won't want sin popping up any time or any place.

Lie #9 It's OK - I don't get "that drunk." Other people get way drunker than I do.
"Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else," Gal. 6:4
You are held accountable to the Lord. Do not compare sins and think you are better.

Lie #10 Getting drunk does not affect my walk with the Lord.
"Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life." Gal. 6:7-8
Sin separates us from the Lord. Yes, He is 100% forgiving and loving. He is also 100% just. You will reap consequences of your actions and feel distance from the Lord as you walk in sin. True repentance will restore you back in His perfect will and under His full protection. Learn more about God's forgiveness!

A few tips:
PRAY before you go out: "Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes," Eph. 6:11

SEEK Christian friends.
"Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” 1 Cor. 15:33

STOP the second you feel alcohol taking over. Stay under the control of the Holy Spirit!
"Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." Ephesians 5:18-20
